Qatar, Iran, Indonesia and Australia seal Danube Island place
Four nations rubber-stamped their spots in the men’s section of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, presented by A1 in Vienna this summer.
Qatar, Iran, Indonesia and Australia will all have men in action on the sand on the Danube Island following their success in the AVC Qatar Masters to become the first countries definitely assured of a place in the Austrian capital between July 28 and August 6.
Jefferson Santos Pereira and Cherif Younousse claimed top spot on the podium in the event on home sand and the duo – should they be picked by the Qatari federation – will be out to better their last performance at the World Championships when they went all the way to the quarterfinals in Holland two years ago.
Following the completion of the women’s AVC Beach Tour, China, Australia, Kazakhstan and Thailand will have teams represented on the Island.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, nations from North and Central America and the Caribbean were awarded places at the World Championships by NORCECA, in accordance with their confederation’s qualification system.
It means that one team from the USA, Canada, Cuba and Guatemala will definitely be involved in the men’s tournament, while one team from the USA, Canada, Cuba and Costa Rica will represent the women in Vienna.
Each continental confederation – in Asia, Africa, Europe, North/Central America/Caribbean and South America – will put forward four teams per gender to the World Championships.
