Crème de la crème of beach stars confirmed for Vienna
The women’s main draw for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna, presented by A1, is a mouth-watering who’s who of the best beach teams in the business.
At the top of the entry ranking sit Brazilian superstars Larissa/Talita, followed by Olympic, European and World Tour champions Ludwig/Walkenhorst of Germany, who are targeting gold to complete their set of all the major titles in the sport.
Larissa/Talita are one of four Brazilian teams heading to the Austrian capital between July 28 and August 6, as they go in search of becoming the sixth team from the South American nation to secure World Championship gold in the history of the competition.
Agatha – who won the world title two years ago with Barbara – goes for gold again, this time with rising star Duda. Barbara teams up with Fernanda, while the fourth Brazilian team on the list is Elize Maia and Taiana Lima.
Talking of champions, 2009 winner April Ross is confirmed in the top 25 in the main draw. The American Olympic bronze medalist of 2016 has joined forces with Lauren Fendrick for the 2017 season and all eyes will be on the pair in their pursuit of glory in Vienna.
Also in the main draw are two Austrian teams hoping to give the home fans something to shout about: Steffi Schwaiger and Katharina Schützenhöfer and Cornelia Rimser and Lena Plesiutschnig.
The list of the remaining teams in the tournament, including the women’s wildcards, will follow in due course later this week.
