The final men’s spot at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1 has been awarded to Austria’s up-and-coming pair Martin Ermacora and Moritz Pristauz.

The Austrian Volleyball Federation handed the youngsters the final wildcard spot for the host nation for the tournament on the Danube Island, which begins on July 28.

Ermacora, 23, and Pristauz, 21, will join fellow Austrian men’s teams Clemens Doppler and Alex Horst, Tobias Winter and Robin Seidl and Thomas Kunert and Christoph Dressler on home sand in Vienna.

“We’re super happy to get the last ticket,” said Ermacora. “The last weeks haven’t been easy because a lot of people were asking whether we were playing in the World Champs and we had no real answer.

“We’re really thankful for the confidence the federation placed on us and we’re really looking forward to competing against the best teams in the world in front of a really big crowd.”

Coach Robert Nowotny added: “They are our perspective team – we’re looking to the future with them.

“With Tokyo 2020 in mind it is important that they gain experience at big tournaments.”

Following last week’s drawing of lots at the Poreč Major, Ermacora/Pristauz will take their place in Pool I alongside Spain’s Herrera/Gavira, Pedlow/Schachter of Canada and Indonesians Candra/Ashfiya.
