The Red Bull Beach Arena gets a special delivery…
As the clock ticks down towards the start of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1, the event location on the Danube Island received a very special – and pretty important – delivery this week: sand!
As our photograph, above, shows, the first of 100 lorry loads of golden sand arrived on site just over a week before the summer spectacular kicks off on Friday, July 28.
In total 2,500 tonnes of sand will be deposited at the Danube Island for the tournament, with half of this spread over the main Red Bull Beach Arena court where the stars will dig and dive in their quest for success.
The very precious, and FIVB-approved, sand ill be approximately 90cm deep at its deepest point on the main court, with the remaining amount used on the two side courts and the specially constructed warm-up courts.
We’ll have bucketfuls of super sand stats and facts for you over the course of the tournament so keep your eyes peeled. However, in the meantime, check out our ticket section for more information on how you can join us at the Island.
