Injury puts pay to Lobato’s World Championship chances
Spain’s Amaranta Navarro has been given a pass to play at Danube Island following an injury to Angela Lobato.
Navarro will team up with two-time Olympian Elsa Baquerizo after Lobato sprained her left ankle during a tournament in the lead-up to this week’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1 in Vienna.
It means Navarro will make her championships debut with Elsa on Saturday against Lidiannis Echeverria/Leila Martinez of Cuba.
But it’s not the first time the pair have played together on the World Tour. The Spaniards have placed 25th at the Gstaad Major in Switzerland and last week’s four-star event in Poland.
It’s the second change of team in the tournament in the past two days following Kerri Walsh Jennings’ decision to head back to the United States after injuring her shoulder in Poland.
