Mozambique duo hail Olympic champs
Aldevino Nguvo and Justino Tovela were proud to have the opportunity to take on Brazilian World and Olympic champions Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt.
The Mozambique pair were far from disgraced against the number five seeds as they went down 13-21, 21 in front of a packed side court 2 that were continually cheering for the African pair.
And the duo spoke of their honor of coming up against such illustrious opponents on the sand at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1.
“It was a hard match. We did our best, but Brazil is too good, they are the defending champions. I am glad with final result,” Nguvo said afterwards.
“It was a pleasure and an honor, not only competing against them but also playing our first match in the World Championships. We feel good about the way we played.
“We learned a lot and we’ll definitely take lessons from this match which we try to use in the following games. We would also like to thanks the fans who supported us during the match.
“They are very nice people and we had the opportunity to talk to them before the match outside the court. These guys are our idols, we really like them. We’ve seen many videos of them on YouTube and it was nice to interact with them here. I’m glad they also speak Portuguese.”
Tovela added: “We knew we’d play against them and they are the best team in the world. We tried to face them in equal conditions, but obviously knowing that they have much more experience than us. It was really good to learn from them.
“We need to keep working, get better results and give ourselves a chance of being part on some exchange programs and learn from them.”
