Ludwig/Walkenhorst too hot for Larissa/Talita
“We’re back!” exclaimed an ecstatic Laura Ludwig as her and teammate Kira Walkenhorst cruised into their first World Championship final with a flawless straight sets win over world number one Larissa Maestrini and Talita Antunes.
The Germans Olympic champions have struggled with injuries this season but there was no stopping them against their Brazilian counterparts as they inflicted another big semifinal defeat on Larissa/Talita – 12 months ago they beat them to reach the final in Rio.
After their 21-19, 21-16 win, Ludwig believes the team are reaching the same kind of standards that saw them sweep all before them last season.
“We are coming closer and closer to Ludwig/Walkenhorst beach volleyball and that’s what we wanted, that’s what we were aiming for this tournament and I’m so happy and satisfied that it’s working.
“Larissa and Talita are having a strong season, they have already won tournaments and we’ve proved we can win against them.”
And Kira, who bossed things as the net, thinks the team are hitting their form just at the right time.
“Of course it’s not that easy and not all the time like last year but we are playing better game by game as a team. Today we had some balls, they looked like they were far away and we wouldn’t get them but we got them and took the point. It was like last year and I hope we keep this for the next two games.”
